Here is how to understand exactly what the sun icons on plant labels mean and how to position within your garden.
Full Sun
Between 6 and 8 hours of sunlight per day.
Partial Sun
Between 3 and 6 hours of sunlight per day, different to partial shade in that the plant will need at least 3 hours in the sun
Partial Shade
Again, between 3 and 6 hours of sunlight per day, however this differs from Partial Sun in that these plants need shade in the hot afternoon sun.
Dappled Sunlight
Shows a need for a larger plant to filter the sunlight to only allow intermittent periods of sunlight rather than full periods of sun.
Full Shade
Less than 3 hours of sunlight per day.
