The most dangerous times for a magnolia, especially young ones, are when the tree is starting to bud but there are still frosts around.

Whilst the tree will most likely survive, it may well lose the blooms for that year and may lose some branches.

Protect the trees by wrapping them in appropriate fleece, available from most garden centres, or use bubble wrap as a cheap alternative.

It can also help Magnolia plants by protecting their roots from frost as well.
