Euonymus are easy to take cuttings from and grow easily enough. Here are two methods to take cuttings. Both methods should be done in spring, after hard frosts have finished. It is best to leave the cuttings for 12 months to give the new plant a chance to grow and be strong enough for garden conditions.
- Take a 10cm cutting from a new shoot, preferably in spring.
- Strip the leaves off the bottom half of the shoot and score lightly with a knife.
- Dip in some root hormone powder
- Place in some compost and keep damp, but not wet, at all times
- Do not plant into landscape until roots grow to about 10 cm in length
Second method
- With a new shoot, strip of about 5cm of the leaves, about 10cm from the end of the shoot, but leave attached to the plant.
- Score the stripped area lightly with a sharp knife
- Peg shoot down under the ground and ensure it covered with some fresh compost.
- The new shoot will root but will still be protected by the remaining plant.
